Job Description:

The Executive Director position in the Facilities Design & Construction Department will have over all Project Management responsibilities for all of Design and Construction. Responsibilities will include management of Project directors, Managers, and insuring successful completion of Project, to expected quality on schedule, and within budget. In addition, the position will provide overall Management of the Space Program and its updating on a periodic basis.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Direct day to day activities of the department and provide guidance on all Facilities Projects including out of ground new construction.
  • Provide Management with periodic status updates on all projects including schedule, cost and significant issues.
  • Develop projects plan to include cost estimate/budget, project timeline, milestones and deliverables. Manage multiple external vendors including Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers, several contractors & other specialized Consultants.
  • Effectively communicate with a diverse group of clients/constituents with varying needs and expectations & rovide periodic updates to them and Management.
  • Analyze space requests, resolve space conflicts, track space commitments and provide long-term planning for the most effective assignments of space requirements and address critical needs.
  • Collaborate closely with client�s areas as it relates to space needs or capital budget development and engage them in the most effective assignments of space allocation, renovation and capital projects.
  • Manage the space/square footage portion of the long term capital plan and provide input as required. Coordinate with Management on Space changes and re-stacking of departments. Maintain an up to date Master Space Plan.
  • Manage space and associated requests in multiple buildings across multiple campuses operated by the University.
  • Ensure all federal, state and local codes and standards are met for any/all projects as well as compliances to University policies, procedures and standards.
  • Provide significant input into design and construction decisions for upcoming major projects and develop detailed project plans.
  • Insure strict compliance to all SJU Project Management Policies and Procedures. Manage other Facilities related assignments as requested by Management.

Requirements:

  • Adept at Project Management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage time well and juggle multiple priorities
  • Client service orientation
  • Political savvy, especially when working with senior level administration and Deans
  • Microsoft Office, Windows XP and other Project Management & scheduling software
  • Ability to develop/interpret technical drawings and have knowledge of building codes and infrastructure standards
  • Demonstrate effective mediation and communication skills. Knowledge of a University system is a plus.
  • Team work
  • Bachelor�s degree in Architecture
  • Engineering or related field minimum of 15 years of experience in facilities Design and Construction including new construction
  • Experience with database management and analysis and capital project management
  • Must be able to work off-hours
