Construction Executive Job Location:Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Estimated Cash Compensation: Unspecified
Job Description:
Troubleshooter for Internationally Recognized Landscape Architecture Firm
One of the benefits of being a larger design firm is that there are often
more in-house resources (e.g. detail libraries, research, comparative
project data) available to staff and clients than a smaller firm is able to
provide. However, the sad fact is that many larger firms while
recognizing the benefit of such resources can't or haven't gotten around
to doing anything about it. Our client, one of the largest an most
successful landscape architecture and planning firms in the world, is acting
on their recognition of the need for an ombudsperson a knowledgeable
individual who can be a firmwide resource to the technical professionals by
reviewing drawings, developing standards, mentoring junior staff, and
generally providing detailed consulting assistance to the staff.
This is a firm that wants to put its best foot forward. It recognizes that
clients expect more from larger firms and they want to deliver. They are
establishing the position of Technical Resources Manager to ensure the
highest quality drawings both on individual projects and over time across
the portfolio. They are seeking a licensed Landscape Architect who has
accumulated detailed knowledge of codes, materials, regulations, standard
details for prototypical situations and overall technical proficiency
throughout his/her career. This person will be an in-house consultant whose
responsibility is to ensure that the firm's designs are technically accurate.
This is a first-time position and therefore able to be molded by the
successful candidate. The mandate is firmwide: the Technical Resource
Manager will be based in Florida, but travel to the firm's other offices
throughout the US will be important. The firm is extraordinarily busy, and
while convinced of the need for a Technical Resources Manager, the
leadership is not in a position to devote larger blocks of time to launching
this effort. They expect that the right person will be able to define and
execute on a role that will gain the trust and confidence of the design and
project management staff at an early date.
To be successful, you must have experience with larger, complex projects and
truly embrace the technical side of landscape architecture. If your
experience includes resorts in locations that are not necessarily in the US,
you'd have an advantage over other candidates who lack this background.
This position goes beyond traditional QA/AC roles. Success will be measured
by reduction in the volume of change orders and E&O; claims, and an elevated
awareness of technical issues and solutions throughout the firm,
particularly among younger staff.
If this unusual-but-important position sounds like an opportunity to
consolidate your experience and translate it to a thriving practice through
hands-on consulting and mentoring, please send your resume in confidence to
