Job Description:
The Terminal Area Manager will be managing an area of the $250 million, SAIA terminal expansion program. The position is an advanced supervisory level of construction field engineering that monitors the field construction of one or more concurrent construction projects and provides technical expertise in the construction and enginnering field. The Area Manager will report to the Construction Project Manager and will be responsible for managing the construction field inspectors.
The Area Manager's responsiblities will be to plan, schedule and supervise inspection and field engineering staff and has administrative authority over construction management, field engineering, technical, and administrative activities of assigned construction projects; acting as a representative of the owner.
Responsible for coordinating with the construction project manager on construction management functions, including construction quality and progress evaluation, schedule and cost control, project coordination, change order control, and data recording and reporting. Monitor and direct the inspection staff on all construction activiites in the area and quality control activities to determine and document compliance with the contract documents.
Determines methods and solution for complex technical and administrative problems and selects the most efficient and economical manner to accomplish the objectives. Determine and ensure that all QC/QA tests are performed and that test reports are properly maintained. Negotiate authorized changes with contractor(s) and make recommendation to the Program Construction Manager and the San Antonio International Airport representative.
Ensure that daily inspection reports are prepared by the inspectors and provide accurate construction progress data. Conduct regularly scheduled progress meetings. Work closely with the project designers in resolving conflicts and ambiguities in the plans and specifications. Identify potential claims and prepare analysis.
Make recommendations on progress payments through reviewing the contractor's submittal and supporting documentation. Ensure the work, with the asssistance of the Safety staff, is conducted in a safe manner.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A B.S. or B.A. degree in an appropriate construction-related architectural, construction or engineering field is required.
A minimum of 5 years experience in responsible construction and/or engineering assignments on an aviation program
Ability to direct, supervise, and motivate field-engineering personnel to accomplish the construction project objectives.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Proficiency in applying advanced design and construction techniques and the ability to plan, organize and supervise the construction management work of one or more projects.
