Job Description:
Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? How would you like to be one of the few people on the planet to set foot on the 7th continent? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation�s (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are looking to hire a Full-Time,

Sr. Facilities Engineer to work in our Centennial, CO office.

This position requires deployment to the South Pole Station for the Austral summer season (appx October � February).

Job Summary:

Responsible for engineering investigations of facilities, equipment and operational issues; design, planning and executing small engineering projects; defining and budgeting large future and maintenance projects for South Pole station in Antarctica. Also responsible for conducting the facility assessments, code compliance and construction review. Deploys to the South Pole during each Austral summer season.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supervises on site engineering related to facilities in Antarctica.
  • Responsible for implementation and evaluation, on a continual basis, the energy management initiatives to station facilities
  • Experienced in the operation of diesel power generation plants
  • Experience with heat recovery systems, especially water jacket and stack gas recovery systems
  • Responsible for design, budgeting and execution of engineering, maintenance and small construction/modification projects.
  • Responsible for the scope definition, specification, budgeting and write up of larger engineering and maintenance projects.
  • Responsible for facilities assessments with regard to all engineering disciplines, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural and controls, particularly DDC and will define, work orders, small projects and large projects to address deficiencies found.
  • Keeps the Facilities Manager, and while deployed, the Area Director informed of the status of engineering and maintenance activities, and assists in the development of programs and budgets.
  • Provides assistance to construction on engineering related matters such as: design and specification clarifications and changes, code issues, as-built drawings, field engineering, DDC control issues and scheduling.
Job Requirements:

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and supervision of the preventive maintenance and work control programs.
  • Education : BS in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration required. Certifications by International Code Council (ICC) in inspection or plan review desirable
  • Training: Direct Digital Control (DDC) necessary. Depth of Safety training required.
Experience:

Ten years minimum of increasing responsibility in facilities engineering design activities. A wide and diverse range of engineering experience is required, including knowledge/ background in mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, structural, etc. Must be highly knowledgeable in building systems to include, HVAC, boilers, furnaces, hydronic heating systems, DDC and thermostatic controls, plumbing and electrical systems, energy conservation and fire protection. Experience in system and project design, specification preparation and review, project scheduling, and project cost estimating is helpful. Experience in the development, implementation, and supervision of preventive maintenance and work control systems is highly desirable. Knowledge of water purification and power generation facilities is also desired.
